School Portraits: What to expect

hello, heartwood families!

I'm thrilled to be photographing the school portraits this year. My daughter, Orla, just moved from Parker River to kindergarten and we are missing the magic of the Owls class! I can't wait to meet all of your kiddos and take some sweet photos.

A little about me: I'm both an environmental scientist/academic and photographer, a hybrid existence I've found best feeds the analytical and creative sides of my brain. I love photographing preschool-aged kids because they are usually pretty genuine in front of the camera. My approach to school portraits is to capture the kids as they are, with no forced smiles and no requirement to be still-- low pressure and fun!

when are school photos?

The mornings of October 11 + 12, before the mud flies and the snacks are devoured.

where will you take the photos?

In the natural settings around the school that we all love. The many shady areas create the perfect diffused light for portraits.

what should the kids wear?

The most important thing is that the kids are comfortable and feel good in their clothing. Itchy, uncomfortable outfits make itchy, uncomfortable photos. Lighter colored tops are best against the darker foliage that will likely be our background, but if you're not feeling light hues, no problem-- I can work with that.

do I need to pay in advance?

Nope! You don't need to do anything ahead of time. The school will deliver the gallery link and after browsing your child's photos, you can decide if you'd like to order digital images and/or prints. All of this is done through the gallery and sent straight to you. Easy peezy.
